Why do we raw feed our dogs? Well here is a raw dog feeding explanation. We hear this question week in and week out and simply what else would your dog eat out in the wild! Dogs are omnivores and will eat fruit, vegtables and what every prey they can get their teeth into, wether that be birds, squirrels, cats, chickens or the postman. They wouldn't be sat around a campfire, stove or oven making biscuits or gravy based wet foods they would be out catching dinner. So why should you be thinking of changing your dogs diet from kibbles and wet foods to a natural raw nutrient rich diet. Kibbles and wet foods are ultra processed and loose a lot of the healthy stuff when the cooking process begins, they are full of synthetic sugars, fillers and additives and offer very little animal proteins. Kibbles don't have any essential vitamins or natural nutritional benefits for your best friends. A raw diet for your dog is as natural as can be its full of high quality proteins, natural vitamins and minerals found in offals and bone content. When feeding your dog a raw diet we would suggest a 80-10-10 diet, what is that most people say?! Basically its simply 80% muscle 10% offal and 10% bone that is classed as a complete and nutritionally rounded meal for your beloved friends. In your 80-10-10 meals you are giving the correct amount of proteins from the muscle of the animal, vitamins B, A, D, E, Copper, Zinc, Magnesium, Iron, Folic acid and Selenium are all found in animal organs (offal) and dogs think organs as the prized meal! The 10% of bone content provides your dog with the right amount of Calcium, Phosphorus and Magnesium, There also a great natural source of Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulphate which can be beneficial for dogs with joint issues.
So what are the benefits of raw feeding.. Well apart from the nutritional benefits explained above after a week or two of transferring your best friends over to a raw diet you will notice a huge difference with
A glossier coat and healthy skin.
Stronger teeth and better dental hygiene.
Better digestion.
Smaller, firmer and less smelly poops.
Improved behaviour and well being.
Easier weight management
And fewer vets bills via healthy species specific diets and no processed rubbish.
We hope this has given you a basic insight into why we recommend a raw diet, in our next post we will de bunk the myths of why raw feeding isn't expensive and why raw feeding isn't unhygienic.
